Well here is the recipe for my mom’s, Judy Tincher, BBQ sauce which has a sweet taste to it! It’s simple to make and give ribs or chicken a great BBQ flavor! First off if you measure your ingredients perfectly it probably won’t taste the way my mom makes it. Use the ingedients and amounts below as a guide and feel free to adjust to personal preferences. For example, my mom just shakes the soy sauce bottle a few times not really measuring it, same with the brown sugar and vinegar. Depending on your tastes you can sweeten or more vinegary taste by adjusting these two ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle ketchup (12 oz)
- 1 bottle chili sauce (12 oz)
- 1 cup water
- 1 med onion, chopped small
- some parsley
- about 2 Tbsp of soy sauce (just shake the bottle a few times)
- 1/3 cup Worchestshire Sauce
- 1/2 bottle of BBQ sauce (you choose)
- some garlic (1-2 toes, or like a scoop of already minced garlic)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (plus) vinegar (we normally use white but may try with apple vinegar too, the PLUS means, start with 1/2 cup and adjust to taste!)
- some lemon juice. maybe a 1/4 cup
- sometimes I’ll add a few shakes of Frank’s RedHot sauce to give the sauce a little kick
Just mix all ingredients in pot on stove. Bring to slow boil (med high) for about 3 minutes and reduce to low simmer for a while. The longer you let it simmer the thicker the sauce becomes. We usually let our sauce simmer for about 45-60 minutes. If you want you can precook your ribs during this time and then dunk ribs in sauce and BBQ. Oh, before dunking, pour off a good amount of sauce to bring to table for extra dipping!
remember to bring sauce to boil after introducing ribs or uncooked food.
