If your you have a gas stove and the cooking grates never get clean after scrubbing or a run through the dishwasher cycle try this solution that I found on eHow.com
Gas stove grates - If you have a gas stove, for which the porcelain-coated iron grates and drip pans become blackened with cooked-on food, here’s a fantastic tip.
Remove the grates, drip pans and small circular pieces that cover the burner and place them in zip-type plastic bags. Into each bag, pour in 1/4 of ammonia. Gently shake the bags and then place them in the sink overnight. In the morning, the cooked-on foods will WIPE right off with very little effort! Be sure to use gloves and don’t breath the fumes, as they are very strong.

Must a ZIP LOC bag be used with the amnonia?
I have large stove top grates.
Could I use a large heavy duty lawn bag and just fold it over?
I am tired of scrubbing for hours with an SOS pad to get my grates clean.
Please advise.
Thank you for your time.
